NHMSFAP is the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia's accreditation program for facilities providing medical and surgical care outside hospitals — BC's counterpart to Alberta's NHSF program. Facilities must be accredited by the program to provide qualifying procedures, and accreditation is maintained through ongoing reassessment.
The program examines the same fundamentals as its Alberta sibling: governance and policies, infection prevention and control, device reprocessing, staffing and credentials, emergency preparedness, and quality management. Western Canadian provinces share a common foundation of accreditation standards, so preparation built for one program transfers substantially to the other.
Why it matters
If you operate — or plan to operate — a non-hospital facility in BC, NHMSFAP accreditation is the gate. The preparation playbook is the same one Alberta facilities use, adapted to CPSBC's published standards.
