OHPIP is the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario's inspection program for out-of-hospital premises — locations where physicians perform certain procedures, such as those using specific levels of anesthesia, outside a hospital. Premises are inspected against CPSO's published program standards, and the outcome determines whether procedures may continue at the location.
Though Ontario frames it as inspection rather than accreditation, the substance overlaps heavily with the Western provinces' programs: the premises' policies, infection prevention and control, device reprocessing, staffing, emergency preparedness, and record-keeping all come under review.
Why it matters
For Ontario premises, an OHPIP outcome is operationally decisive. The same documentation-first preparation that passes Western accreditation programs is what passes an OHPIP inspection.
